Sandra Resende
Portuguese born in Mozambique in 1973, Sandra has lived and worked in Luxembourg since 2005. Alongside her studies at the University of Coimbra, she trained in theatre at the student association. With her Philosophy degree in hand, she decided to move into the performing arts.
Her work with textiles took shape years later, when she developed techniques on a self-taught basis. Her experience of the theatre leads her to tell visual stories, weaving abstract subjects and poetic images, where the notions of the other, memory and imperfection are present. The dialogue between the material and her hands triggers an inner journey. Her credo: we are permanently questioning. Her work involves tapestry, weaving, embroidery, crochet and latch hook. Working with these different techniques, as well as with a variety of materials and media, gives her the openness and freedom not to get reduced to one sole category. Favouring natural, recycled and reused fibres, she also works with natural fabrics such as linen and reuses samples of curtain and upholstery fabrics discarded by the stores.
