Zaiga Baiza
Zaiga Baiža, born in Riga (Latvia) in 1964, has been living in Luxembourg for 20 years. From her workshop in Asselborn, she works with Luxembourg artist Robert Emeringer for public commissions and the restoration of glass and stained glass objects. Zaiga studied sculpture, painting and glass design and obtained a Master of Arts degree from the Latvian Art Academy. To discover different techniques, she attended the Lviv Art Academy (Ukraine) and Experimental Glass Factory Lviv. Since 2006, she has been organizing the International Glass Festival in Luxembourg as well as various international exhibitions.
Zaiga loves to carve glass, transparent, bright, heavy and yet so light, airy, and magical. Her creations come from different techniques, such as glass paste, thermoforming, engraving, painting and pouring glass. She particularly enjoys combining glass with various materials such as metal, stone or ceramics in a set of strange and magical assemblies, allowing the craziest expressions, opening the doors to the most whimsical dreams, and offering all possible and impossible combinations.
The "ALTERNATIVE" series is a blend of strict metal lines and mysterious glass effects.
