Production artisanale portugaise: L’actualité du savoir-faire ancestral EN | The culture of artisanal production stands out for the quality of its proposals for new value chains. Craft products and services, designed and produced locally, can once again become part of the daily routines and consumption habits of today’s world due to their intrinsic material and aesthetic quality. In doing so, they contribute to the socio-economic sustainability of territories and to conscious and responsible consumption, i.e. to the functioning of local and circular economies. In addition to these four axes underpinning the entire traditional Arts and Crafts sector, we intend to highlight four characteristics present in all ancestral artefacts, which are exemplified here through specific utensils that clearly illustrate them. The symbolic, material intelligence, technical meticulousness, and shelter are concepts that are manifested fluidly in all high-quality craft artefacts, revealing the mastery of the artisans in responding to the diverse needs of societies in their time. Rather than offering an exhaustive or individualised exhibition, the selection of the artefacts featured in this exhibition was driven by the representativeness of the fundamental characteristics inherent to the handicrafts, by the diversity of raw materials and their connection to the territories, by the diversity of the work represented, and by the scope of the Portuguese national territory. This selection exclusively features artefacts produced today, highlighting their contemporary character. Indeed, all these pieces continue to be made today. The collective heritage of artisanal knowledge is represented by the works of these masters, who as ambassadors of their craft, invite the visitor to learn more about the current state of Portuguese material and immaterial culture. FR | La culture de la production artisanale se distingue par la qualité des propositions qu’elle présente pour de nouvelles chaînes de valeur. Les produits et services artisanaux, conçus et produits localement, peuvent à nouveau faire partie des routines quotidiennes et des habitudes de consommation d’aujourd’hui, en raison de leur qualité matérielle et esthétique intrinsèque. Ce faisant, ils contribuent à la durabilité socio-économique des territoires, à une consommation consciente et responsable, c’est-à-dire au fonctionnement des économies locales et circulaires. En plus de ces quatre axes transversaux à l’ensemble du secteur des Arts et Métiers traditionnels, nous entendons mettre en évidence quatre caractéristiques présentes dans tous les artefacts ancestraux, qui sont ici illustrées à travers des ustensiles spécifiques. Le symbolique, l’intelligence matérielle, le détail technique et le refuge sont des concepts qui se manifestent et se croisent de manière fluide dans différents artefacts, révélant la maîtrise des artisans à répondre aux divers besoins des sociétés à chaque époque. L’ensemble des objets présents dans l’exposition est donc une sélection motivée par la représentation des caractéristiques fondamentales inhérentes à l’artisanat d’art, par la diversité des matières premières et leur lien avec les territoires, par la diversité des œuvres représentées et par l’ampleur de l’exposition, loin de l’idée d’une exposition exhaustive ou d’une appréciation individuelle. Cette sélection rassemble uniquement des objets produits de nos jours, soulignant leur caractère contemporain. Toutes ces pièces continuent d’être fabriquées aujourd’hui. Le patrimoine collectif des savoir-faire est représenté ici par les œuvres de ces maîtres, qui, en tant que leurs ambassadeurs, invitent le visiteur à en apprendre davantage sur la culture matérielle et immatérielle portugaise actuelle. 106 DE MAINS DE MAÎTRES DE MAINS DE MAÎTRES 107
