David Catherine
A designer of contemporary jewellery, Catherine David trained in Versailles in 1991, then at the École Boulle (Paris) in jewellery/precious metals, before moving to Luxembourg in 1999. Her creations stand out because of their bold juxtaposition of colours, the use of all kinds of stones and minerals and the absence of hierarchy. Her works reveal a dreamlike and joyful spirit. Each piece is conceived as a miniature sculpture that aims to catch the eyes and draw a smile on the observer's face. She has been exhibiting at the Antiques and Art Fair in Luxembourg for several years now.
The circularity of the 1st necklace evokes a fluid, open territory, allowing a breath of air to express itself, giving birth to a pearl, like a blossoming plant. The mosaic engraving suggests the flow, the fluidity of the creative gesture, but also cultural diversity. The 2nd necklace starts with a conglomerate of "bulbs", like so many territories that, united, symbolise Europe. From these bulbs sprout axes/branches that encourage abundance.
The ring is engraved, as if scratched by the vagaries of life. A citrine in the shape of an onion illustrates the porosity between art and cultures, like the Austrian churches with their steeples similar to those of Orthodox churches.
