kombinéiert, gëtt de Rol dem Eisen eng Charakteristik,
déi em feelt: d‘Liichtegkeet. Hie konzentréiert seng
Recherche op déi kinetesch Effekter vum Inox a
schafft eng Schläiftechnik aus, fir Mauerskulpture mat
illusionisteschen an dräidimensionalen Effekter ze
schafen. Hien entdeckt an entwéckelt d‘Anodiséierung
op Titan weider, fir Faarf dobäizeginn, soudass seng
Wierker sech jee no Luucht a jee nom Point-de-vue
vum Spectateur verwandele kënnen.
Rol Backendorf, né en 1961 à Pétange, obtient son
CAPT de tourneur sur fer au sein de l ‘ARBED en
1979 et travaille aux CFL. En 1988, il se lance comme
indépendant et commence dans la fabrication
d’articles de fausse bijouterie. Il suit, l’année suivante,
une formation pédagogique et artistique à l’école de
cirque à Bruxelles. Grâce à la Chambre des Métiers et
au Ministère de la Culture, il loue un premier atelier
pour vivre sa passion de l’art en véritable autodidacte.
Depuis 2010 il a son atelier à la « Becher Gare ».
En combinant différents matériaux avec le fer, Rol lui
confère sa caractéristique manquante, la légèreté.
Il consacre ses recherches sur les effets cinétiques
de l’acier inox et élabore une technique de ponçage
minutieuse pour créer des sculptures murales à
effets illusionnistes et tridimensionnels. Il découvre
et développe l’anodisation sur titane pour ajouter de
la couleur et donner à ses œuvres le pouvoir de se
métamorphoser selon la lumière et le point de vue du
spectateur.
Rol Backendorf, born in 1961 in Pétange, obtains his
CAPT in iron-turner at the ARBED in 1979 and works
at CFL. In 1988, he sets up his own business and starts
with the fabrication of false jewellery articles. He
undertakes, the following year, an educational and
artistic training at the Ecole du Cirque in Brussels.
Thanks to the Trade Chambers and Ministry of Culture,
he rents a first workshop to live out of his art passion
as real autodidact. Since 2010, he has his workshop at
the “Becher Station”.
By combining different materials with iron, Rol imparts
his missing characteristic, the lightness. He dedicates
his research to the kinetic effects of the stainless
steel and elaborates a meticulous sanding technique
to create mural sculpture with illusionist and three-
dimensional effects. He discovers and develops the
anodising on titanium to add colours and give to his
pieces the power to metamorphose according to light
and to the point of view of the public.
